Is it possible to post job ads somewhere at GIS SE?

I have looked many places, but don't seem to find anything.

There is a Community Wiki dealing with GIS jobs on the Main site if that is what you are looking for.

The Q/A format of the site makes it inappropriate to advertise jobs directly in questions either here on meta or the main site. That being said, I personally feel it would be ok to drop a line in chat (as long as it is done in good taste, not overtly spam, and only done infrequently).

Also the main site has a separate place where one can post job listings for a fee.

Another way is to leave items/links in your profile page to your company or job postings. Of course the more questions and answers you ask the more people will visit your profile page!

I have updated my profile now, thanks for the idea. – Uffe Kousgaard Aug 12 '11 at 7:04
  • @Uffe If you're very, very active on this site, your profile will average two to four new viewers per day :-(. – whuber Aug 12 '11 at 15:55
  • Posting to relevant LinkedIn job groups has already generated much more interest than I ever think GIS.SE can do, even if I try to reply to a lot of questions. Let's just realize this isn't the best place to advertise jobs. – Uffe Kousgaard Aug 12 '11 at 22:15
  • @Uffe , that is good to know. I agree that posting the link in various places on GIS.SE is probably not the best approach. The link in the profile is free though, so it can't cost anything besides the minute to put the link in the profile. – Andy W Aug 14 '11 at 1:12

Click the Advertising info link which appears at the bottom of every screen:
